Let’s Dance Storytime - Tales for Twos

Early Literacy Tip – We’re going to do lots of dancing today. Movement and literacy go hand in hand. Movement is another form of communication, just like language. It’s another way for children to express themselves. Also, when you dance or sing you experience rhythm which is one of the basics of language. Dancing is lots of fun but it’s also a great way to learn. One expert in neuroscience Dee Coulter, calls songs and movement “brilliant neurological exercises.” (“Linking Literacy and Movement” by Rae Pica)

Dancing Scarves (sing to “Looby Loo”)
Here we go up and down,
Here we go up and down,
Here we go up and down,
Watching our scarves dance.

…fast and slow…

We Are Leaving (sing to the tune of “Frere Jacques”)
We are leaving, we are leaving,
Time to go, time to go.
It was nice to see you,
It was nice to see you.
Good-bye. Good-bye.
